Panama City, Fla.— The Florida Department of Health is partnering with Gulf Coast Children’s Advocacy Center’s Running Scared Zombie 5K to promote World Heart Day. FDOH-Bay will be supplying volunteers, race bag goodies and public health messages for the runners.

“Bay County’s rate of pre-mature deaths from heart disease far exceeds national targets”, said Doug Kent, Administrator. “We are working with our Community Health Improvement Plan with the Community Health Task Force to address the need for heart health awareness and education and this is just part of our efforts.”

FDOH-Bay wants to spread the word about heart health and the fact that at least 80 percent of premature deaths from cardiovascular disease (CVD) could be avoided if four main risk factors-tobacco use, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity and harmful use of alcohol-were controlled.

Be proactive. Make healthy lifestyle choices and help your loved ones do the same. Sign up for Hands-Only CPR, chocking response and AED (Automated External Defibrillators) training. Together, we can fight CVD-the world’s number one killer.

The Running Scared Zombie 5K Run was held on Saturday, September 24. The event wasl held at Harder’s Park. Proceeds benefited the Gulf Coast Children’s Advocacy Center.
